The
2004 Sciath na Scol football campaign got under way last week. Crab Lane have
entered teams in both boys and girls sections and hope to add to the success
that we experienced a few years ago.
Miss Flynn saw her charges get off to the best possible start in Blackrock on
Friday, when the girls overcame a robust challenge from a competitive Monkstown
team. Though dominant in the possession stakes for the better part of the match,
Crab Lane found it difficult to convert their advantage into scores and found
themselves just a point ahead at half time. Further pressure was added by Monkstown
in the second half when a goal was scored, to level proceedings. Hampered again
by waywardness in front of the posts, Crab Lane piled on the pressure in the
closing minutes and eventually got the all-important winning point from the
boot of Amy Coughlan. Others to impress included Holly Marrett, Ellen O' Keeffe
and Jemma Dunne, to mention but a few. Beidh na cailíní ag imirt
arís an t-seachatin seo chughainn agus le cúnamh Dé beidh
dea-scéal againn arís ón gcluiche sin. In the meantime,
it's the turn of our boys to step up to the plate and see if they can live with
the good start of the girls! Over to ye, lads!!

The girls found the going very tough in this Sciath na Scol division and learned some harsh lessons at the hands of some of the strongest teams in the County. However, they displayed great determination in all their matches and were a much improved outfit at the end of the campaign. The fact that the vast majority of our players will be available next year is very encouraging, and with the tremendous work being put in by Miss Flynn throughout the year, all are hopeful that next year wil see us compete very strongly.

A
well deserved "féasta" was enjoyed by the team at the end of
the campaign, and a presentation was made to Miss Flynn for all her hard work.
Míle buíochas léi.

WELL DONE LADS!
(Tuairisc ó Luke Leahy - A Match Report by Luke Leahy, Rang 5)
It
was a wonderful day for the Crab Lane footballers today as they defeated Rathduff
N.S. at the Grenagh G.A.A. grounds .The scoring was opened by Ben Kindellan
with a wonderful goal assisted by Alan Courtney midway through the first half.
The first half was close and low scoring and the sides went in at half-time
with the scoreline at 1-0 to 0-0. In the second half both Jake O'Callaghan and
Andrew Joyce had wonderful games in the Crab Lane backline. After some creative
play by the Crab Lane midfield, Crab Lane added a second goal. However, the
game was far from over after Grenagh scored a cracking goal following a free.
But as the referee blew her whistle it was to be Crab Lanes day!
