Enable Ireland (Lavanagh Centre)

 

Based in Ballintemple village, Enable Ireland provides a wide range of free services for up to 150 children and adults daily,and over 800 outpatients with physical disability and has been doing so for nearly fifty years.

Enable Ireland helps and supports people with physical disabilities. It provides diagnosis, assessment and treatment programmes for babies, children and adults with a range of physical disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida and Muscular Dystrophy.

The Centre also offers a number of "Quality of Life Development Programmes" which include - Home Management, Communications, Literacy and Numeracy, Computer Skills, Personal Development, Catering, Arts & Crafts and Social & Cultural Studies.

Also based at Enable Ireland is the national school "School of the Divine Child" which caters for 37 pupils with physical disabilities,ranging in age from 5 to 18.

Other facilities at Enable Ireland, Ballintemple are a hydrotherapy pool and a respite centre. A respite centre is a place where people go to have a rest and to take a break from their normal surrounds.The respite facility opened in 1997.
